About Dr.-Med. Edmund Effah-Gyan

Dr.-Med. Edmund Effah-Gyan was born on the 20th of September, 1946 in Ghana. His parents were Opanin Kwaku Anane Gyan (a professional cook) and Madam Akua Attah Boahemaa (a house wife). These parents were blessed with ten healthy children, six boys and four girls.

Through dedicated efforts, sacrifice and God’s blessings, Edmund Effa-Gyan studied Medicine at the famous University in Montpellier in France and later specialized as a Neurologist. Thereafter, he served his community in South France with absolute modesty and humility. But Edmund never forgot his roots. He forwent all luxuries and pleasures and invested all his earnings in establishing a clinic in his home village to serve the people, an opportunity he never enjoyed himself as a boy

The kwaku Gyamah Memorial Clinic Project

The project towards the establishment of this clinic took a very long time considering the fact that Edmund had to fund this project through his pocket.

After completion of the clinic and its registration with the Ghana Medical and Dental Council for eligibility to operate as a medical facility in Ghana, Dr. Effa-Gyan closed his eyes forever. He did not enjoy that privilege to administer his acquired medical skills to his people. His people include peasants, farmers, village inhabitants, people without formal education, a society full of teenage pregnancies, a society full of various tropical diseases (malaria, small pox, elephantiasis), sexual diseases, infant mortalities, single-parent homes, less school opportunities, to mention just a few.  On account of these societal shortcomings, Effa-Gyan decided to establish not only a clinic but also an Association for Integrated Development (AFID).

After his death in May 2016, the rest of his siblings have taken upon the challenge to emulate Effa-Gyan’s unique example.
